Alexis Balmer

Biography:

Alexis is a PhD student and Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Kansas. She earned both her BA and MA from Purdue University in her hometown of West Lafayette, IN. Her Master’s thesis examined how individuals navigated stigma and support during the process of disclosing their abortion. At KU, her research program continues to center on stigmas associated with vulnerable populations, and in turn, how those identities are disclosed. 

In addition to her research, as a GTA Alexis takes immense pride in sharing her love of Communication with her students and has been published in the journal Feminist Pedagogy. Alexis has previously taught (or TA’d) courses including: Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Principles of Persuasion, Science Writing and Presentations, and Fundamentals of Speech Communication.
