Biography

Areas of Specialization: Political & Intercultural Communication

Eduardo Munoz Suarez is a Ph.D. student and University Graduate Fellow in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Kansas. His research explores how language markers—particularly accents—shape political perceptions, candidate evaluations, and voter behavior in multilingual contexts. He also studies political communication within Spanish-speaking communities and other language minorities, with applications in political campaigns. His work draws on experimental designs, surveys, and quantitative analysis to better understand how language and identity intersect with political attitudes.

Before coming to KU, Eduardo earned an M.A. in Communication from the University of Oklahoma, where his thesis investigated how Latino-accented English influences political candidate evaluations. He also holds an M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations from the Diplomatic School of Spain and a B.A. in Political Science and Public Management from the University of Salamanca (Spain), where his thesis explored the Democratic Party’s electoral campaign in Georgia to turn it into a competitive state.

Eduardo’s research has been published in American Behavioral Scientist and other academic journals, and he has presented at international conferences including the Latin American Studies Association, the National Communication Association, and the European Consortium for Political Research. He also contributes to the discipline as a reviewer for journals and conferences.

At the University of Oklahoma, Eduardo taught courses in communication fundamentals and supported students in research and public speaking. At KU, he continues to develop his research program and participate in academic service while filling various teaching roles.
